Commonly confused with silicone, silicon is the 14th element in the periodic table. Silicon is a metalloid, meaning that it has properties of both metals and nonmetals. Silicone, on the other hand, is a man-made synthetic polymer that is commonly known to be a flexible and rubberlike plastic. Silicone is commonly found in the medical field in devices such as implants, catheters, contact lenses, bandages and a variety of other items.

The Joy Factory’s aXtion line of cases are made of high-quality food-grade safe silicone. The benefits of silicone include naturally shock-absorbing, lightweight, increased durability and longevity, and increased water and oil resistance. Silicone also has low levels of toxicity, making this material both user and eco-friendly. It is both hypoallergenic and non-odorous so it is safe to use around children.

Unlike toxic silicon, our high-quality material will not have any consequences for the user’s health. Users should be cautious of toxic silicon- a common characteristic of toxic silicon is that it becomes sticky over time as it begins to breakdown.
